MY APPROACH
I've been making pictures since 2006. My passion led me to obtain a degree in Photojournalism from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2012. I've had a unique journey through the professional photographic world, from staff and freelance work for news outlets, to assisting and production on commercial, documentary and editorial projects. My past clients and places of work include The Daily Hampshire Gazette, The Baltimore Sun, Sports Illustrated, Magnum Photos, The New York Stock Exchange, The Washington Post, The Associated Press, Bates College, The Barre-Montpelier Times Argus, Vermont Digger, and Seven Days. I enjoy photographing nature and the night sky, too, in addition to personal projects--I've basically always got a camera with me. Through all of this time I have also been photographing weddings--an assignment that requires me to employ skills from all of these different areas of photography I've worked in.
I live with my partner Emily in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, with a small herd of cats & dogs. I think my range of experiences has helped lead me to be able to connect with most anyone, and go with the flow no matter what happens. Wedding days can sometimes get off schedule, nobody is perfect, but I firmly believe that you can't be late to your own wedding and I pride myself on being flexible & adapting to whatever the day brings to keep everyone comfortable.
I'll step in and give direction when it's needed for portraits or family pictures, but otherwise I am there to capture the day authentically. The majority of images will be candid. I settle in to the space with you and react to the wide range of emotions and energy throughout the day. Everybody has a different story to tell, and for me that is an exciting challenge to meet. The venues change, but whether it is your backyard with a small group of those closest to you, a barn with a big field and a tent, or a ski resort with 200 folks ready to party, I will document the day as it happened and help you remember it for years to come.
It's entirely up to you how much time is spent on formal photos, but I do my best to make that time low-stress, natural to you, and efficient, so you can get back to being with your favorite people to celebrate. My approach for portraiture usually consists of scouting out some simple walks to take together to best utilize the spaces you have chosen and the best light available that day. Most clients have not had their pictures taken often in this way, so I do my best to make everyone feel at ease and not take you away from the party too long.

TESTIMONIALS
“Josh was a great addition to our wedding. He was very professional and had a calming presence which helped with taking authentic and journalistic style photos. He was very receptive on what we were looking for and knew exactly where to take the best photos for the group. He did a great job balancing being out of the way while making sure to be in the right place to get those candid moments. We couldn’t have asked for a better photographer; we liked him so much that he photographed our sister’s wedding the next year!”
-Olivia and Kalervo, 2023
“It was evident from the get-go working with Josh that he has seen it all and knew what to look for, what to shoot, and how to talk to couples to make them feel comfortable. He was open to all of our own ideas, kept the process fun and flexible, and got such special shots that I didn’t even know he had noticed. Easy to communicate with and a genuine person, we could not recommend him enough to anyone out there looking for a photographer.”

LET’S GET IN TOUCH!
Tell me about yourselves, what you are looking for in a wedding photographer, and what kind of day you are envisioning together. I'm a millennial that still digs talking on the phone, so let's connect on the basics and find a time to chat in more detail. My starting rate is $4500, which includes 8 hours of coverage with me and a private online gallery to share with everyone containing high resolution files suitable for whatever your printing desires may be. I am more than comfortable working solo, but if you have a large number of guests (150+) or just like the idea of adding a second photographer, I'd suggest we draw from a trusted roster of photographers with a similar sensibility & approach that we can include to capture even more moments throughout the day & compliment my vision with a different set of eyes. Adding a second photographer brings the package price up to $6000. If you are looking to customize a package for a longer or shorter amount of time, let me know what you are thinking and we can come up with a plan that makes sense for everyone. I'll ask that clients secure their booking with a 50% retainer, with the remaining balance due on your wedding day. You'll receive a set of preview images within the week, and the entire package will be delivered 6-8 weeks later. I look forward to hearing from you!
